 FAQs

  • How It’s Supposed to Work Foundation is a registered U.S. 501(c)(3). Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You’ll receive a receipt for your records.

  • Your donation supports two things at the same time:

Immediate relief for people facing urgent harm, and clear, nonpartisan civic learning that helps people understand how the systems affecting their lives actually work. We don’t separate compassion from capacity.

  • Both. Some funds go directly to relief efforts—such as childcare gaps, domestic violence-related needs, and short-term financial shocks. Other funds support learning tools, explainers, and civic participation programs that help people navigate and influence the systems behind those harms.

  • At this time, donations are generally unrestricted so we can respond where needs are most urgent. If you’re interested in supporting a specific initiative or partnership, contact us and we’ll talk through options transparently.

  • No. We are strictly nonpartisan. We do not endorse candidates or support political parties. Our work focuses on education, systems literacy, and civic participation that is compliant with 501(c)(3) rules.

  • We prioritize lean operations, clear program design, and accountability. Funds are allocated to direct relief, program delivery, and the infrastructure required to operate responsibly and measure impact.
